Ball Precision Grades

AFBMA standards govern various the dimensional tolerances of balls. The main factors affecting ball performance are ovality (out of roundness) and the actual diametrical tolerances. These standards are listed below.

Ball Grades (AFBMA)

  Ovality Per Ball Diametrical Tolerance
mm Inches mm Inches
Grade 3 +/- 0.000076 +/- 0.000003 +/- 0.000762 +/- 0.00003
Grade 5 +/- 0.000127 +/- 0.000005 +/- 0.001270 +/- 0.00005
Grade 10 +/- 0.000254 +/- 0.000010 +/- 0.00254 +/- 0.00010
