Seal - Glossary - Technical Information - Hobby and Engineering
Glossary - SealA device used to stop the ingress of contaminants and/or the leakage of lubricant from the bearing. Seals can be separate items, or they can be an integral part of the bearing. Integral bearing seals are situated between the inner and outer rings, and cover the edge of the bearing protecting the internal moving parts. Seals can be made from various materials including rubber compounds or ptfe. The most common integral bearing seal is made from nitrile. Compare shield.
