Carbon SteelCarbon steel is a generic term used to describe a steel in which carbon is the principal additive. Steel is composed mainly or Iron, with various additives to give it unique characteristics. To be described as a carbon steel, manganese would be limited to a maximum of 1.65%, silicon to 0.60% maximum, copper to 0.60% maximum, and sulfur and phosphorus each to 0.05% maximum.
