Split Pins
Also known as Cotter Pins
Split pins are made from wire which is bent to form the shape of a pin.
The diameter of the pin is slightly smaller than the nominal size, allowing it to pass through a hole
of the nominal size. The ends of the pin are then bent outwards to stop the pin from being
pulled back through the hole.
Split pins are a quick and inexpensive way to lock components nto a shaft. They are a relatively non-precise option, as they are unable to be positioned with any accuracy.
